Requiem
Roland Barthes states in the book Camera Lucida, “For me, color is artifice, a cosmetic (like the kind used to paint corpses).” I have appropriated the aesthetics of post mortem photography to create commemorative portraits of my loved ones. Through the use of color, I am attempting to embalm my family members. My purpose for creating these pre-mortem portraits is to deepen and prolong the process of grieving those that I have not yet lost.
